Open for Business with a new book!

Fragile DiamondsAt the moment Starving in a Garret is working out of Suspension Cafe, 3 Beaumont Street Islington, or wherever I find good coffee and a place to write. I hope though to team up with Sarah Birch of Inner Vista again soon. As I have had a very hectic day today – the Losties Walk, Tabu at 12pm at Towers Cinema as part of the Travelling Film Festival and then Christmas festivities at Grossman House, Maitland – I will be glad to actually sit quietly tomorrow at Suspension and relax!

Last night at the wonderful City Evolutions Light Show on Watt Street I ran into Mark Liston, Newcastle’s very own Poetry Cafe Poet in Residence at Sprocket Cafe for 2012 and 2013. He kindly agreed to let me have five copies of his poetry collection Fragile Diamonds published by Picaro Press to sell through SIAG. I picked them up today at the Hunters Writers Centre where Mark was conducting his poetry group meeting with a very impressive attendance. Well done Mark!

As mentioned above I will be at Suspension Cafe, Beaumont Street, Hamilton tomorrow morning from 10.15 to around 12.15. Hope to see an odd face or two or new faces who are interested in being a part of this co-operative.

    Hi Debbie,
Can you, or anyone else, tell me when the Watt St. light show will be on again?
    Ross
PS. There is currently an interesting exhibition on at N’cle Art Space in Parry St. 6 or 7 artists such as Varelle Hardy, Pat Davidson etc

  2. I believe it’s on every night for a year, Ross. That’s what I’ve heard. To be safe I would just go on say a Friday or Saturday. They’ve set everything up on timers. They just won’t have that very big light. Well worth a look.

  3. the light show is on every night until 10pm – just a warning that one or two may not be working but I am sure that they will be sorting that issues out. We were in last night and the one in front of the Lock Up was not working,

Howdy! I realize this is somewhat off-topic however I had to ask.
Does managing a well-established website like yours take a large amount of work?
I am brand new to running a blog but I do write
in my journal everyday. I’d like to start a blog so I can share my experience and thoughts online.

Please let me know if you have any kind of ideas orr tips foor brand new aspiring blog owners.
    Thankyou!

    • Thanks for the compliment. It is a struggle working full time, writing a novel and keeping a blog. I find once a month is all I can manage and I think as a reader that’s all that most people can manage. Around 500 words is also, I think, the best length. WordPress is great and not that difficult to use. I would suggest when you set it up don’t try and do everything all at once. Keep the blog short – a sort of hello world and worry about the extra stuff like the widgets as you get used to using the blog. Let me know if you get stuck.
      best wishes
      Debbie

  13. I’m truly enjoying the design and layout of your blog.

It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to
come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a designer to create your theme?
    Great work!

truly appreciate your technique of blogging.
I added it to my bookmark website list and will be checking back soon.
Please check out my website as well and let mme know what you think.

    • Hi powertrain,

You’ve certainly done a lot of articles! I’m not sure what you are using to put the blog up but it would be great if you can upload some images. Is that possible with your site? WordPress does make a lot of things like images and headings much easier.
      Best wishes with your blogging
      Debbie

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into
starting my own blog and was curious what all iss needed to geet
setup? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny?
I’m not very web smar so I’m not 100% certain. Any recommendations
or advice would be greatly appreciated. Kudos

    • My blog is wordpress and the version I use is free. I only pay $18 per year because I wanted to grab the domain that went with it. WordPress comes with so many widgets I really only have to put everything together. Ie upload the images and links and decide what I put where. Would definitely recommend wordpress http://www.wordpress.com

Go glad you like my site.
      Debbie
